State
Project Update
by Terry Bell
This year the Utah Association of Student Financial Aid
Administrators sent postcards to all the high school seniors
(about 33,000) instructing them to get their pin number
from the Department of Education and to apply for financial
aid online. We believe that this project benefits the students,
their parents, and the financial aid offices. Now that we
have electronic master promissory notes and many are moving
toward other electronic signature processes, getting their
electronic PIN number will be a real benefit to all.
This project was a joint effort between UASFAA and the
UHEAA. It is the goal of the UASFAA board to fund the "state"
project in the future so that it won't be a financial burden
on UHEAA. I want to sincerely thank our friends at UHEAA
for all their support to UASFAA.

ListServe Established
by Dave Olson
The UASFAA EIC Committee is proud to announce that we UASFAA
Members now have ListServe capability for our uses. The
following are the ListServe addresses currently available:
All UASFAA members – members@uasfaa.org
Voting members of UASFAA – votingmembers@uasfaa.org
UASFAA Committee Chairs – committeechairs@uasfaa.org
2003 UASFAA Board Members – 2003board@uasfaa.org
The ListServe addresses will help us all in achieving fast,
reliable communications between UASFAA members. Only members
assigned to each given ListServe have the capability to
use that specific ListServe address. No commercial content
is allowed to be sent via any of the above addresses. Only
topics which involve the UASFAA community should be sent
via any UASFAA ListServe address (no e-mails involving jokes,
recipes, politics, rumors or any other non-related topics).
As a service to UASFAA, the ListServe, as well as the UASFAA
website, is housed and maintained by the Utah Higher Education
Assistance Authority (UHEAA). UASFAA appreciates UHEAA's
work and support in building and maintaining the ListServe
in addition to housing the UASFAA website. Thank you UHEAA!
The
Finger Roll Drive Down the Middle!
by Mike McKendrick
Every
Thursday I get together with some of my buddies and we meet
at the church for a little basketball. It was a pretty good
night for me. I had my "finger roll drive down the
middle" going pretty good that night.
It was about 10:30 p.m. and I would like to think that
I was going for a miraculous dunk, however, it was anything
but remarkable…
Once again, I turned to the "finger roll drive down
the middle," but this time it wasn't very pretty. I
jumped up, did the finger roll—I was told that I made
the shot—but when I came down, I landed on someone's
foot and subsequently felt my leg snap like a good piece
of firewood. Needless to say, it was pretty painful.
I'll be laid up pretty good for about six weeks. I broke
my tibia in half and broke the fibula twice. The doctor
said the operation went well but that I've got some new
hardware. They bolted a titanium rod through my tibia from
my knee down to my ankle. After a couple of days of recovery
in the hospital, they sent me home.
I'm hoping to be as good as new when all is said and done.
Hopefully, I will be more prudent in the future and play
sports that are a little less taxing on my aging body.
